Let’s Talk About Dermal Filler

As women and men, we like to look and feel good, whether it be for ourselves, for our partners, for our friends, it doesn’t matter, what matters is that we all, consciously or subconsciously, care about how we present ourselves to the world.

With the technological advancements in anti-aging medicine, and the increase in demand for non-surgical rejuvenation treatments such as botulinum toxin and dermal fillers, we are now able to safely and non-invasively slow down the aging process, and refresh dull, tired looking skin. Whether it be dark under eye bags, wrinkles on the forehead or around the eyes, flattening of the cheeks or a chin or jawline that is starting to sag. With a

holistic approach, and an injector with a good aesthetic eye, balance can be restored.

There does seem to be some confusion out there in regards to what dermal filler actually is and does, it is often confused with Botox too!

Botox injections are commonly known as “anti wrinkle injections” and are a purified protein that relaxes the muscles that cause facial wrinkles, lasting 3-4 months. Dermal Fillers are made up of a synthesised sugar molecule that are injected to re-volumise, hydrate and correct contours of the face. Results generally last 6-24 months depending on the product used and the area treated.

Dermal fillers are a non-surgical rejuvenation treatment, not usually requiring any down time, and are well tolerated during the treatment. A series of small “pin pricks” is felt, that do not usually require anaesthetic, but can be used to increase comfort.

Dermal filler can be used to subtly restore lost volume, hollows, and shadows and to hydrate our skin. There are a variety of different fillers that are used for certain areas, depending on the skin integrity and the end goal. I only use semi-permanent fillers that slowly breakdown over a period of time, this happens slowly, safely and will restore you to your pre-treatment condition. Using permanent filler in the face, that is constantly moving, changing and aging is a disaster waiting to happen, and I would strongly advise to not let anyone convince you that permanent filler is a good option.

There is always the fear that you will come out of a dermal filler treatment looking like cat woman or have lips that enter the room before you do. Thankfully, this look is becoming obsolete. Finding a practitioner that you can build rapport with, whom understands your needs, is well educated and experienced and has a focus on natural, harmonious results is key. The most beautiful, natural results come from personalised treatment plans that are completed over a period of time, and that consider all aspects of the aging face, not just focusing on one area or problem. Dermal filler treatments are all unique, and the demand is increasing due to the fact that we can now subtly improve the signs of aging in a non-surgical way, with minimal downtime. Come and have a no obligation discussion about dermal fillers and how they might be of benefit to you!
